Work in progress.

Just wanted to show you what I was working on for the moment. Hopefully I get it finished by next weekend.
Have a great Saturday!

Storage problem

During the weekend I sorted out my fabric stash. I folded each piece of fabric according the 'Happy Zombie Method' and everything looks much better now.

I like a tidy working space.

That's why I don't like the picture below.

These are the fabrics that were to big to fold and for which I didn't have any place left on the shelf.
So now I've got two options:
or I close my eyes every time I step into my workroom so I don't see this mess
or I get rid of some clutter and make room for my precious fabrics.
I think I have to go for options number two. I don't like to sew with my eyes closed. It's not that practical.

First steps.

On Friday Poppemie got a brand new fabulous Nintendo DS lite. She also stayed over that night and when we were cleaning up a bit to make room for her bed, she got intrigued by all the fabrics and bits and pieces laying around. So she asked me if I could teach her how to sew. We decided to make a little bag to protect her new Nintendo and then she chose which fabrics she was going to use. She went for a white furry leftover piece and the red and white polka dot fabric.
She ended up sewing the heart in place, the straight lines of the strap and both sides of the bag.

And she loved it!

Particularly the zig-zag stitch.

As a finishing touch Poppemie added a little doll and a bell, so she can hear when someone is trying to get access to her new bright red treasure!

Yesterday I wrote about how impulsive I bought my sewing machine, so I thought I would show you some pictures of the beauty. It's a Pfaff, select 3.0 and I love it for 2 reasons:
1. It's simple. It's got no electronics or big displays. No, just a few buttons and a clean look.
2. It's got IDT™. Which stands for 'integrated dual feed' and so the fabric gets transported not only from below, but also from the top, so you can sew many different layers very easily.
3. And I just thought of a third reason: it's pink!

The picture below should have been in my previous post (a view from the back), but something went wrong during the upload, so I'm showing it now. And to answer Erica's question: I didn't use a pattern. Most of the times I'm to impatient to make a pattern first. That creates of course many problems, but the main problem with it is that I can't make a second one. So I'm learning from my mistakes and last time I made a bag, I was a very good girl and first made I little pattern.

For my aunt.

This bag was a gift for my aunt's birthday last year. Since then she has used it a lot and it has been washed several times (hence the faded stripes), but more importantly: it's still in one piece! And that I like, because it was not fun to make. It all went so horribly wrong, that I stopped in the middle of sewing a pocket, got up, got in the car, drove to town and bought a good and sturdy new sewing machine. I have to say that I'm normally not that impulsive and certainly not when it comes to making such a big purchase, but I have not one moment of regret. I love my sewing machine!
The bag has got a zipper and a metal snap hook to close it and lots of pockets. And that's a good thing, because she is always carrying around loads of stuff; a purse, a sell phone, her keys, mints, glasses, a tape measure, sugar cubes, a whistle, at least 3 pens, paper, tissues, a camera,etc...

My Mother.

Because today is Mother's day,
a picture of my lovely mother.
(taken in 1976, the year she met my father).
Moedertje, dank u voor al je goede zorgen en het warme nest!
Veel liefs, Sese.

A great way to start a Sunday.

I just got back from a trip to the E.R.
I had a jaw dislocation (for the fourth time...) and I therefore I couldn't close my mouth anymore. Luckily there was a good doctor who pushed everything back in the right place and without any anesthetic this time!
So now I'm back home with this fashionable bracelet and a face that feels like it had a good beating.

Another bag

I was going through my ever growing photo collection and came across these pictures of a bag I made last year. It shows my handsome godson Jules and I made it for his mothers birthday.

I took a little break...

...from quilting and made a wristlet. The leaf fabric is from here and the polkadot lining from here. It has a zipper AND a magnetic snap, to keep everything safely in place.
