Give & take.

Yesterday I received a Stylish Blogger Award from MiekK's.
Thank you very much!
To accept the award I have to share five random facts about myself and pass it on to 5 other bloggers.

1. I'm very impatient, but I'm trying to work on that.
2. Autumn is my favorite season.
I'm looking forward already to wearing scarfs, boots, tights & raincoats!
3. When I was 6, I wanted to experience how it would feel, to run with my eyes closed.
It hurt a lot.
The church building however had no scratch.
4. I love any movie about war or the army. I will pick 'Band of Brothers' over 'Sex and the City' any day.
5. I love jewelry, but hardly ever wear it. Though I think it looks great on others, when I wear it, I can't help but feel like a decorated Christmas tree.

And the award goes to:

And now for the giving part.
The winner of the giveaway is:
So Vanessa, please e-mail me your address, and I'll send you your bag as soon as possible. Congratulations!
And a big thank you to everyone who left a comment about their favorite song, it was great reading about it! A playlist is coming soon!

Those were the days.

As a child I've mainly spend my summers playing in the street and in nearby forests and fields. But once you get older, growing up in a small town demands you to be creative during summer holidays. So I've spend many afternoons drawing & painting together with my best friend. One of the things we liked to do, was to come up with silly little cartoons featuring our alter egos Delfien & Josefien.
Yesterday I found this one:
(Please keep in mind we were young & very bored)

The ugly truth.

A few weeks back, I posted this picture of my sewing room:
I got many great reactions on it and some of you wondered if it always looks as neat and tidy as this.
Well the truth is: it doesn't.
For the moment it looks more like this:

I know, it's a tad different from the before shot.

Let's take a closer look:

4 pairs of scissors
1 knife
1 rotary cutter
1 tube of fabric glue
1 cutting mat
1 pair of tweezers
1 fabric covered brick (=a school project)
1 little box with pins
more fabric
2 rulers
1 plastic box with spools
pattern pieces
2 hammers
1 note book
1 empty bottle of Almdudler (die kultige Kräuterlimonade aus Österreich!)
1 measuring tape
2 paper bags from 'de Veritas'
even more pieces of fabric
2 little weights
1 box with rivets
Theodore the Turtle
3 pens
1 fabric marker
1 pencil
1 necklace with blue beads
small pieces of fusible interfacing
1 sheet of tracing paper
1 hairpin

And if you'll excuse me now, I need to go & clean up.

P.S. Don't forget the giveaway!

How it all began...

It all started in the beautiful year of 1999.
I think.
(my memory sucks)
It was the year when people were preparing for the big Y2K bug, listening to this, watching this & some people were still wearing these.
I just finished high school & was desperately trying to find my way in the big scary world. (but that's a whole other story....)
Always being busy crafting, sanding & painting, one day I got intrigued by my mothers sewing machine. It was an 30 year old Bernina, which she didn't really use that often. Starting with sewing straight lines, back & forward and getting to know the machine, it quickly moved to my room.

After trying to make some skirts, I soon switched to making bags. The first ones being a suede bag with some jeans details and a denim bag with a cow application. That last one was actually a pretty sturdy bag, I used it an entire school year.
Then one sunny Saturday afternoon
(OK, my memory might suck on the important things, but insignificant details are not a problem, go figure)
smoke started to appear from my beloved Bernina.
Bye bye Bernina and welcome some unknown sewing machine.
I don't have pictures of this machine; it was great to practice further on until this day and this beauty came in to my life:

From then on the interest in fabric, thread and sewing grew bigger and the word spread.
Friends and family gave me their leftover fabric, buttons, needles, etc. and until today I'm still sewing, designing and most of all learning more and more each day about this passion of mine.

Now I'm very interested to learn how La Fille Hella , Katrien & Ella Montella got bitten by the sewing bug. Care to share it with us?
Here are the rules:
